KWS is hiring for the following full-time position at KWS Gateway Research Center at BRDG Park:

  • Research Technician – Biochemistry

We are seeking to recruit at the earliest opportunity a Research Technician, Protein Biochemistry – KWS Gateway Research Center on a permanent, full-time basis. This position will join the gene editing team. For further information please visit HERE.

Your tasks:
− Conduct large and small scale protein purification experiments.
− Carry out protein expression studies in bacteria and plant cells.
− Analyze protein interactions with plant membranes and nucleic acids.
− Analyze proteins from plant tissues using various methods including immune-biochemical, calorimetric, and enzymatic assays.
− Maintain detailed and organized records of project data, contribute to data analysis.
− General laboratory management such as ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and managing waste.
− Participate in group meetings and discussions on method development and improvements.
− Other duties and projects to support the needs of the business.
− Comply with all company policies and state and federal guidelines.

Required qualifications:
− Demonstrated skills in protein extraction from plant tissue and analysis by standard biochemical methods.
− Experience with multiple protein purification methods.
− Bachelor or Associate degree in plant biochemistry, plant biotechnology or related fields.
− 1+ yrs of hands-on experience in protein or lipid biochemistry.
− Ability to follow protocols to generate reproducible results and good observational skills.
− Skilled in documenting accurate experimental records.
− Willingness to learn and implement new experimental techniques.
− Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
− Authorized and eligible to work for any employer in the United States.

Desired qualifications:
− Interest in participating in new technology development.
− Experience in lipid biochemistry, including thin-layer chromatography and liposome generation.
− Training and experience using an ÄKTA purification system.
− Experience in handling RNA and protein-nucleic acid complexes.
− Experience using in vitro transcription and translation protocols.
− Organized, detail-orientated and able to troubleshoot experimental problems.
− Ability to work independently to plan, conduct and follow up experiments.

  • Research Scientist, Plant Cell Systems

The KWS Gateway Research Center in BRDG Park, St. Louis, has an immediate opening for a full-time research scientist in the area of plant cell systems. For further information please visit HERE.

Your tasks:
− Development of suspension cell culture systems for both monocots and dicots.
− Optimize protocols for filtration, transformation and isolation of treated plant suspension cells.
− Work effectively as part of a research team, lead and manage research technician staff.
− Ensure compliance with all company policies and state and federal guidelines.
− Participate in group meetings and discussions. Other duties and projects to support the needs of the business.

Required qualifications:
− Demonstrated expertise in establishing healthy suspension cell cultures for at least two plant species.
− Expertise working with embryogenic callus and cells.
− Experience transforming suspension cell cultures, including by particle bombardment.
− Demonstrated expertise with plant cell sorting and associated technology.
− University degree (preferably PhD) in plant biology or related fields.
− Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
− Authorized and eligible to work in the USA.

Desired qualifications:
− Experience with tissue culture and regeneration of whole plants.
− Experience in protoplast isolation and manipulation.
− 5+ yrs of industry or academic research experience.
− Ability to think creatively to identify solutions.
− Proficiency and knowledgeable in various methods in plant physiology, biochemistry, microscopy, and molecular biology.
− Able to travel domestic and international (up to 10%)

  • Research Technician, Plant Cell Culture

− Isolate and transform plant cells and tissues under aseptic conditions.
− Conduct physiological, and microscopic analyses of plant cells and tissue.

− General laboratory management such as ordering supplies, maintaining inventory and managing waste.
− Comply with all company policies and state and federal guidelines.
− Participate in group meetings and discussions.

Required qualifications:
− 1+ yrs hands-on experience in plant in vitro culture and regeneration.
− Bachelor or Associate degree in plant biotechnology or related fields.
− Ability to follow protocols to generate reproducible results.
− Ability to clearly document and maintain accurate laboratory experimental records.
− Willingness to learn and implement new experimental techniques.
− Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
− Authorized and eligible to work in the USA.

Desired qualifications:
− 2+ yrs of industry or academic research experience.
− Skilled in plant in vitro culture of multiple crops.
− Demonstrated experience in optimization of in vitro culture conditions.
− Previous experience in plant suspension cell culture.
− Organized, detail-orientated and able to troubleshoot experimental problems.
− Ability to work independently to plan, conduct and follow up experiments.

NewLeaf Symbiotics is hiring for the following positions at BRDG Park on the Danforth Center campus:

  • Web and Database Developer

Summary:
NewLeaf Symbiotics is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Web and Database Developer position. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for implementation of web-based software and databases targeted at a wide variety of technical projects.

Responsibilities Include:
− Implementation of scientific data entry forms and tools,
− Integration of new data and data types with existing databases,
− Implementation of new data analysis and visualization tools,
− Design and implementation of databases.

Primary duties include implementation and ongoing refinement of web-based software and databases targeted at scientific data entry, analysis of genomic sequences, integrating genotype and phenotype data, data mining, and data visualization.

The successful individual must enjoy working on a team as well as demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks. The candidate must possess excellent record-keeping and written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated experience in modern web technologies is required, examples should be included in the application package using github or etc. Experience with cloud-based services such as Amazon’s EC2 platform is preferred. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or 4 years of relevant work experience.

Compensation:
The incumbent will be hired at a level commensurate with their knowledge, skills and abilities. The salary range is competitive.   • Part Time Administrative Assistant (Contractor)

Summary:

NewLeaf Symbiotics is seeking to hire a self-motivated, part-time administrative assistant to work in a fun and fast-paced lab and office environment for a six-month, extendable contract period. NewLeaf is located in St. Louis, Missouri at the Bio-Research and Development Growth (“BRDG”) Park adjacent to the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center.

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

− 3+ years experience as an administrative assistant, light accounting a plus, lab support a plus
− Excellent interpersonal skills and communicates effectively both in person and in writing
− Computer proficiency; specifically, possessing at least an intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and office email, calendar systems
− Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
− Proactive problem-solver
− Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality
− Have occasional weekday flexibility in schedule.

Responsibilities:

− Lab and office supply procurement and data entry. Develop and maintain inventory system and organization
− Filing and file maintenance
− Help coordinate service calls for company space and equipment
− Sort mail and distribute
− Maintain professional appearance of the reception area, conference rooms and kitchen
− Communicate team meetings and activities
− Remove/return recyclable materials
− Shipping & receiving
− Assist with preparations and logistics for Board and other high-level customer/investor meetings
− Phone and teleconference support
− Expense report and credit card statement reconciliation and preparation
− Other special projects as assigned
