 NewLeaf Symbiotics is hiring for the following positions at BRDG Park on the Danforth Center campus:

  • Web and Database Developer

Summary:
NewLeaf Symbiotics is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Web and Database Developer position. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for implementation of web-based software and databases targeted at a wide variety of technical projects.

Responsibilities Include:
− Implementation of scientific data entry forms and tools,
− Integration of new data and data types with existing databases,
− Implementation of new data analysis and visualization tools,
− Design and implementation of databases.

Primary duties include implementation and ongoing refinement of web-based software and databases targeted at scientific data entry, analysis of genomic sequences, integrating genotype and phenotype data, data mining, and data visualization.

The successful individual must enjoy working on a team as well as demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks. The candidate must possess excellent record-keeping and written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated experience in modern web technologies is required, examples should be included in the application package using github or etc. Experience with cloud-based services such as Amazon’s EC2 platform is preferred. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or 4 years of relevant work experience.

Compensation:
The incumbent will be hired at a level commensurate with their knowledge, skills and abilities. The salary range is competitive. NewLeaf Symbiotics offers a comprehensive benefits package, including stock options, 401K, and a health plan including medical and dental coverage.  In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus plan.

  • Staff Scientist: Molecular Biology & Microbiology

NewLeaf Symbiotics is seeking a motivated Staff Scientist to conduct research aimed at developing plant-associated bacteria as drop-in solutions for agriculture.  The company is a fast-paced and exciting startup company engaged in the discovery, development, formulation, and commercialization of products based on naturally occurring, beneficial plant-associated bacteria.

The company headquarters and laboratories are located in the BRDG Park facility of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, in the Creve Coeur area of St. Louis, Missouri.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct laboratory research in molecular biology, microbiology and plant-microbe interactions both independently and in collaboration with others
  • In collaboration with Bioinformatics continually improve predictability of primary assay screens
  • Prepare and communicate protocols, reports and analyses regularly to the team and NLS leadership
  • Remain current in literature in discipline, and create and design new methods to advance company goals
  • Assist with other related lab and greenhouse projects as needed to help NewLeaf Symbiotics meet its R&D objectives

Requirements:

  • Educational requirements are a Ph.D. with 2+ years (or M.Sc. with 4+ years) of academic and/or industrial in one or more areas related to molecular biology, microbiology, metagenomics, plant-microbe interactions or microbial ecology
  • Based on genomics and phenomics data, ability to design hypotheses to test in the laboratory/greenhouse/field to support the product development
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with excellent problem-solving, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and desire to work independently as well as in a collaborative and cross functional team-environment (plant biology, microbiology, bioinformatics)
  • Proficiency at multi-tasking and prioritization of assignments in a fast-paced and often changing research environment
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques including
    • DNA/RNA extractions, cloning, RT-PCR, qPCR, and PCR techniques
    • Illumina or other next generation sequencing and library preparation
    • Computational biology skills a significant advantage
  • Able to work in growth chamber and greenhouse settings
