KWS is hiring for the following full-time positions at KWS Gateway Research Center at BRDG Park:

  • Research Technician – Greenhouse

We are seeking to recruit at the earliest opportunity a Research Technician, Greenhouse – KWS Gateway Research Center on a permanent, full-time basis. This position will join the high throughput transformation pipeline team. For further information please visit HERE.

Your tasks:
− Potting and pollination of maize donor and transgenic plants
− Harvest donor material and process transgenic seed
− Follow procedures for containment practices
− Maintain accurate and well organized greenhouse records
− Greenhouse management such as ordering supplies, maintaining inventory and managing waste
− Participate in group meetings and discussions on method development and improvements
− Other duties and projects to support the needs of the business
− Comply with all company policies and state and federal guidelines

Required qualifications:
− Demonstrated expertise in greenhouse maize propagation
− Experience trouble shooting issues with maize plant growth and pollination
− Bachelor or Associate degree in plant biology, horticulture, agronomy or related field
− Ability to follow protocols and good observational skills
− Skilled in documenting accurate experimental records
− Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
− Authorized and eligible to work for any employer in the United States

Desired qualifications:
− 3+ years hands on experience in large greenhouse setting
− Extensive greenhouse experience supporting high throughput maize transformation pipeline
− Working knowledge of LIMS database
− Organized, detail-orientated person comfortable working in a team setting

  • Research Technician – Plant Tissue

We are seeking to recruit at the earliest opportunity a Research Technician, Plant Tissue Culture Media Preparation – KWS Gateway Research Center on a permanent, full-time basis. This position will join the Plant Transformation Pipeline Team. For further information please visit HERE.

Your tasks:
− Produce high quality plant tissue culture media to support the transformation pipeline
− Sterilization and dispensing of tissue culture media
− Maintain accurate and well organized records for stock solution and media preparation
− General media preparation management such as ordering supplies and maintaining inventory
− Conduct plant transformation experiments with a focus on maize transformation
− Participate in group meetings and discussions on method development and improvements
− Other duties and projects to support the needs of the business.
− Comply with all company policies and state and federal guidelines

Required qualifications:
− Demonstrated expertise in plant tissue culture media preparation and aseptic culture
− Demonstrated experience in media preparation management
− Attention to detail preparing plant tissue culture stock solutions and media
− Bachelor or Associate degree in plant biotechnology or related field
− 1+ years of hands on experience in plant transformation
− Ability to follow protocols and good observational skills
− Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
− Authorized and eligible to work for any employer in the United States

Desired qualifications:
− 3+ years of industry experience preparing media for high throughput transformation pipeline
− 3+ years of experience in maize transformation
− Organized, detail-oriented person comfortable working in a team setting

  • Research Technician, Molecular Biology (GEP1)

We are seeking to recruit, at the earliest opportunity, a Research Technician, Molecular Biology at the KWS Gateway Research Center on a permanent, full-time basis. This position joins our team in the area of technology development. For further information please visit HERE.

Your tasks:
− Perform cloning of genes, regulatory elements and vector components using various plasmid construction methods.
− Perform transient plant transformation experiments, including preparation of plant material and downstream molecular analyses.
− Conduct molecular characterization of plant lines, including DNA/RNA isolation and various PCR methods.
− Maintain detailed and organized records of project data, vector analyses, bacterial stocks, and contribute to data analysis and method development.
− General laboratory management such as ordering supplies, maintaining inventory and managing waste.
− Comply with all company policies and state and federal guidelines.
− Participate in group meetings and discussions.
− Other duties and projects to support the needs of the business.

Required qualifications:
− Demonstrated skills in gene cloning, vector construction and molecular analysis of transient expression in eukaryotic systems.
− Demonstrated skills in various PCR-based techniques.
− Bachelor or Associate degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or related fields.
− Demonstrated ability to follow protocols to generate reproducible results.
− Ability to clearly document and maintain meticulous laboratory experimental records.
− Willingness to learn and implement new experimental techniques.
− Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
− Authorized and eligible to work for any employer in the United States.

Desired qualifications:
− Demonstrated experience with the design, molecular analysis and optimization of plasmids and gene expression cassettes.
− Hands-on experience working with plant cell and tissue cultures.
− 2+ years of industry or academic research experience.
− Background knowledge in plant molecular biology, cell or tissue culture and/or related fields.
− Organized, detail-orientated and able to independently troubleshoot experimental problems.
− Ability to work independently to plan, conduct and analyze experiments.

NewLeaf Symbiotics is hiring for the following paid internship position at BRDG Park on the Danforth Center campus:

  • Paid Internship in Microbiology and Bioinformatics

Job Details:
NewLeaf Symbiotics is seeking a Microbial Bioinformatics intern for its Bioinformatics group. The intern will conduct literature searches and reviews for key metabolic pathways in plant-associated bacteria involved in plant growth promotion. The intern will gain experience in applied Bioinformatics in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology.

Job Requirements:
The successful candidate is working towards an undergraduate degree in Microbiology and has strong interests in Microbiology, Bioinformatics, or Genomics. The candidate should have exceptional reading skills and be able to review and summarize the findings of scientific literature in a clear and a concise manner. Good communication and interpersonal skills are important for this position. Knowledge of Computer Programming is preferred but not necessary.

Salary commensurates with qualifications and experience.
